But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting. ( Matthew 17:21 )
Prayer and Fasting …
What exactly is fasting?…it is a time when Christians set aside something for a designated time and focus their attention on God…focussing on God and not our own desires will draw us into a closer relationship with Him…and that should be our main focus, to be in prayer and fasting is one way of giving God the attention that He deserves and desires from us…there are different types of fasting we can choose to take part in doing…
We were well into our trip to New Mexico, about 200 miles from our destination… when we became very hungry for something to eat… as we were passing a BBQ restaurant that’s when the big Z turned around and we knew this was the place to eat…
As we were finish eating a lady approached and ask if we wanted any ice cream for desert…I reluctantly said no thank you and tried to forget about it…while Cyndy said , of course I would like to have some…as she sat across from me and I was doing my best to ignore her…but as she was finishing the ice cream I ask, how would you rate it compared to Jason’s?…she replied, well, if Jason’s was a 10, I would have to rate this homemade ice cream a 18…Really?… so she scooped up the last bite and said, just take a little bite…I said, no thanks I remember what happened to Adam…and we both begin to laugh…
In all seriousness I praise God that through the power Holy Spirit for strength to resist the temptation of eating the ice cream that was offered to me…because I had given up sweets and sodas for the 21 days of fasting…this time set aside for prayer and fasting was a breakthrough for me in drawing closer to God and being blessed with the opportunity to devote time to Getting To Know The Holy Spirit….
So we fasted and sought our God concerning this matter, and He listened to our entreaty.
( Ezra 8:23 )
Father, we pray that the Holy Spirit would keep us under conviction to keep our focus on You…and to keep our lives aligned with Your will and with ours…and thank You for loving us and never giving up on us…In Jesus Name…Amen…
Enjoy the journey…
In Christ…
